Let’s face it, who hasn’t struggled at one time or another to make healthy choices?! “Tomorrow, I’ll stop getting a triple venti, extra whip caramel Frappuccino.” Or “I really deserve that extra hour of sleep, so I’ll try to run later.” As the saying goes, old habits die hard, and it takes an effort to choose a healthier option.
Fitness makes everything better, in our experience. And lots of fit 50+ year olds have agreed. When you decide to change your life with fitness and a better diet, you will find that you have more energy and flexibility, a better mood, and even increased libido. A fit, healthy lifestyle also results in less pain, a longer life, and a better life overall.
Alan and Bonnie Cashman sat down with us to share their experience with getting fit after age 50. Alan used to ask waiters to have his salads ‘well-dressed’, but not anymore… He has since taken the steps in diet and exercise to become fit after fifty with his wife Bonnie. They personally challenge you to try it for yourself.
Watch this video to hear their story:
The Cashmans own and operate LAB5 Fitness, which is a Seattle-based, results-oriented boutique fitness studio that offers Pilates, Yoga, TRX, Barre, Fusion and more to help individuals of all ages enjoy the benefits of a healthy life. As Bonnie says, LAB5 is something “people use to not only become physically healthier, and more fit, but mentally and socially healthier by connecting with other people.”
At Lab5, Alan and Bonnie have found a way to get fit together, and help others to do the same. “We hope people can learn and share from the results that we’ve been able to obtain in our life through a healthy lifestyle and fitness,” Alan says.
Lab5 offers some excellent sampler specials, if you’re interested in trying their classes. Click here for details.
Join Bonnie and Alan in the movement to be fit after fifty. Slowly in baby steps, stop slathering your salads in fatty, unhealthy dressings, and make a change to choose options that are better for your body. In fact, Bonnie passed along a fantastic (and delicious, we tried it!) healthy recipe substitute to the unhealthy salad dressings out there:

Lots of inspiring profiles here, good work! One thing I’d like to see is more about the folks behind the blog and the book. Are you in the Seattle area too? Are you over 50 yourself or younger?
Thanks for your comment, Mary. You can check our team here: http://fitafterfifty.com/book/our-team/ Tony is the primary spokesperson and thought leader behind Fit After Fifty…he celebrated his 70th birthday this year and can still knock out a tennis match, crossfit workout and golf range practice in one day and still have the energy to socialize with friends and family in the evening. He envisioned this site to be a platform for celebrating and motivating healthy, fit living after 50. The more input from other people and their real experiences, regardless of their fitness level (considering to start, just starting, currently active, etc.), the closer we get to creating a fit movement.
If you would like to discuss further, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. Thanks again for your input!
